Wasantha Waduge was trained in gold and silver. The Waaeco workshop in Beliatta, Hambantota District, is where that jewellery-making hand now meets teak and mahogany. More of that story is on the founder section of the home page.
The move from goldsmithing to wood is practical, not mythical. Setting, proportion, and finish were learned in metal. The current work is carved and turned wood: un-hinged bangles, a chunky thumb ring, cords and beads. There is no palace origin story, no invented dynasty, and no claim that the workshop sits inside a royal city.
