The teak in Waaeco bangles and most of the beads is plantation-grown in Sri Lanka’s Hambantota dry zone, then brought to the Beliatta workshop. Yala National Park is a neighbour in the same district. It is not a timber source.
Sri Lankan teak (Thekka in Sinhala) in this collection is described as plantation-grown in the Hambantota dry zone. That is the honest sourcing line. The workshop selects by grain and density from the timber that arrives as planks, blocks, and off-cuts. Colour runs from honeyed brown to deeper oil-darkened tones. No two sections read the same.
Mahogany is used for the thumb ring and some pendant forms. It is Sri Lankan mahogany, not an African or American furniture-grade claim, and not mixed with ebony, copper, or inlaid intarsia. Those materials are not in the line.
We do not sell “park teak.” Nothing is cut in Yala or any other protected area. We do not call the wood native forest teak, reclaimed temple timber, or antique ship teak. We do not put an FSC mark on these pages — we have not certified the chain of custody on this site, and we will not borrow a logo we have not earned.
This is jewellery, not furniture: bangles, a thumb ring, pendants, necklaces. Outdoor tables and clasp-link wood bracelets are a different trade.
